The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), in partnership with the United Bank for Africa (UBA), Go Places and E-Gift Africa, has launched a new prepaid card to promote travel to Kenya by travellers across the African nations.
Titled Magical Kenya Prepaid Travel Card, the new prepaid chip enabled card provides tourists attractive discounts and loyalty points that can be redeemed or transferred within the hospitality sector to encourage them for hassle free travel across the country. The new card will also be helpful to West Africans who travel to Kenya for corporate, education and medical purposes.
According to in-house statistics of KTB, tourists from Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal to Kenya are expected to rise by 30% in 2017, with Nigeria contributing the major share. Further, the travel board found that majority of Nigerian tourists prefer to visit Kenyan coastal resort towns of Diani and Mombasa.
As part of its marketing efforts, KTB has been inviting tour operators and travel writers from West African countries to sensitise with the local products. Furthermore, the travel board also intends to market Kenya tourism in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Ethiopia.
According to PayNXT360’s latest report on prepaid card intelligence, the Kenyan market is expected to record a CAGR of 38.7% during 2017-2021 to reach US$ 678 million by 2021.
