Blackhawk partners with Albertsons to roll out specialty gift cards

Blackhawk Network, the US-based company that offers prepaid gift cards and payment solutions has partnered with supermarket Albertsons to launch gift card program. The launch has been planned keeping in the view the upcoming spring and summer holidays where gifting is a practice in the country. The reloadable Visa gift cards can be utilized for payments at restaurants, fuel service stations, and other retail stores.

The gift cards can be used at over 2,200 Albertsons stores and its partners including Safeway, Vons, Pavilions, Tom Thumb, Randalls, United, Carrs, Albertsons Market, ACME, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Star Market, Market Street, Haggen, Eagle, Amigos, Pak ‘n Save and Super Saver. The cards can be loaded with funds between $20 and $200.

In December 2016, Blackhawk integrated its gift cards, loyalty cards, and reward programs into Apple Pay to enable users to manage, store, and make payments with gift and loyalty cards via Apple Pay. The reward points that the user receives will also be added back to their card via Apple Pay. Earlier in February 2016, Blackhawk acquired e-commerce solutions firm NimbleCommerce to boost online distribution capabilities of its products and services.

The country's gift card market in terms of transaction value is expected to record a CAGR of 10.0% during 2017-2021 to reach US$ 313,822.7 million by 2021.
