Barclaycard, a division of Barclays, has entered into a partnership agreement with Uber Technologies to introduce an innovative, first of its kind loyalty programme in the UK.
The British payment services provider has been scouting for new ways to provide additional value for its more than 10 million customers on their everyday purchases. The agreement is expected to attract other bank card holders to switch to Barclaycard, considering the rewards.
Under the agreement, Barclaycard customers who take Uber cab service for first time will get up to GBP10 discount for first two rides on booking through the Uber mobile app. Furthermore, Barclaycard’s personal credit card customers will also get a free Uber ride, up to the value of GBP15, for every 10 rides they take in 450 cities where Uber operates (the UK or other countries) on payment through their Barclaycard by the end of 2017.
“Working with Uber will see us offer great value to Barclaycard holders, and builds on our heritage of innovation in the transport space as we work together to drive forward exciting new ways of rewarding customer loyalty,” said Brian Cole, CEO of Barclaycard UK.
Mobile payment market in the country is expected to record a CAGR of 28.5% from 2017-2021 to reach US$ 8,14,698 million in transaction value terms by 2021. Attracting customers through innovative loyalty programs is going to play a critical role in gaining market share. PayNXT360 expects increased rate of innovation in delivering loyalty programs through mobile devices.
